27 December 2007

The sun sets on 2007.

So, I have this habit of constructing posts, pooping out after a couple hours, and abandoning them to sit forever encased in blog cemeteryville. Upon attempting again to recreate this pattern (alas, maybe a different outcome? - look for a summer 08 update)...I'm going to resurrect this post written last January; never finished, never published. So here you find an abruptly stunted version of the blog that never was (but is now). [12 August, 2008.]

First off, snow is entirely under-rated (as long as one [me] doesn't have to; A) shovel it or B) drive in it). Every winter, mother nature gives some of us a break - allowing for dozens of people to legitimately (or not) "work" from home in the middle of the week. Why is this important? Well, it's 2:30pm on a Thursday, the household is toasty warm, the snow is piling high, and I have yet to take off my pajamas or run a comb through my hair. Coincidentally, a snow day also spawned my last posting (refer to Dec 2006 blizzard posting) from what feels like a distant past.

Anyhoo, I opened the mail today to find a barrage of year-in-reviews from friends & relatives. To be fair, the barrage is not a novelty given our pathetic biweekly mail checking habits. I read, I chuckled, in all the appropriate spots, and maybe some not so appropriate, I reflected on our own 2007. Just what in the heck did we do this year?

The birth of '07..

The first moments of 2007 came forth for CleeShay in the company of some of our greatest friends, as should all new
years moments, at The Weedmarks' house in San Diego. A week of late night conversations followed regarding the answer to life, the universe, and everything (which by way, is 42 in case you didn't know). We also celebrated the life of Elizabeth Weedmark, who left us much too soon the preceding January, by attending, performing, and offering anything our hands could manage to the 1st annual LizFest benefit concert. A great success indeed.

Spring visitors..
Spring in the Rockies brought Shay's 31st birthday, fresh snow (of the tiresome "we've been doing this for like 5 months now give it a rest Mother Nature!" flavor) and a visit from our favorite So. Calif. natives Nathan, Anita, and Greg. Even with the palpable bittersweet melancholy of Elizabeth's absence, their visit brought some refreshing California air. After toiling around Boulder for a few days, the gang headed up to Carbondale, CO. to join the Weedmarks' lifelong friends Mary Margaret, Steve, and their daughter Shannon for a memorable sleepover at 'the shop'. This is also where I fell in love with Chuck (pictured right) and we paid homage by taking time to pile in for a pose. One day we hope for a Chuck of our own.

British Invasion!
Ah yes, it was The Brits bi-annual stateside visit! Only one day after crossing the pond, we loaded dear friends Kingsley & Minna into a rental SUV (for the true American experience) and headed out for a week's tour of the great state of Colorado. Here are some highlights:

Stop 1: Carbondale, CO.

How, oh how, can I get more of that Thai food? Our visit to Phat Thai in Carbondale was seriously good. These are not the faces of the bored, only the faces of the sated. Food this good is worthy of a highlight.

It was difficult to arrange, but we totally planned this round-up to occur just as we were passing south on Route 133. Just in case Minna & Kingsley had any doubt that we were in fact in The West, and that sometimes it still looks quintessentially both wild and old.

Stop 2: Ouray, CO.
One can hardly sum up Ouray. Seriously. One can also not include only one photo of Ouray. Many a fun was had in this town (and many a story that require in-person demonstration & affectations). Pictured below is the 4x4 excursion up Yankee Boy Basin to 12,000 feet, which included the famous Coors waterfall..
